These Apple Scones taste like a delicious bakery treat, but they're so simple to make at home!
I first shared the recipe here for these Apple Scones four years ago. Since then, we've made them over and over again, as have thousands of you!
It is one of the most popular recipes on Some the Wiser this time of year, and if you've tasted them, it's easy to see why.
Since we ushered in yet another autumnal season in this week, and I picked up the first of many boxes of apples to be enjoyed, I thought it was not only time to make a batch of Apple Scones, but also a fine time to share them here once again.
From my kitchen to yours, here's a delicious way to welcome the season. I'm going to make a fresh batch right now.
P.S. We may not have done much in the way of decorations four years ago, but my kids are four years older now and I'm happy to report that our mantle and table are completely dressed for Halloween this year! We even have a glittery Halloween sign on the front door!
My Autumn Offering
Apple Scones today! And not just any old Apple Scones, but Apple Scones with the most delicious Apple Cider Cinnamon Glaze. These are about to be your new favorite recipe, no joke.
These particular Apple Scones were my Autumn offering to my children. After visiting friends' homes and looking through one too many magazines, my kids wanted to know why we don't decorate for the seasons. No elaborate fall mantels, Halloween table centerpieces, or homemade wreaths for the front door. Sad;y, there are no decorations at all.
I don't want them to feel like they're missing out on anything in their childhood because I'm a single parent, so I try to never offer that as an excuse to them, even when it really is the best reason I've got. Because I'm the sole adult in charge of every aspect of making this house run and meeting all of the kids' needs, there are inevitably limits to my time and resources.
I think that for the most part I do a pretty good job of making my kids feel like they have everything they need and at least some of the things they want. The lack of holiday and seasonal decor, however, is one of the more noticeable gaps. If I have to let something slide, I am okay with it being a seasonally decorated fire place mantel, you know?
But since the kids have been pestering for Autumn and Halloween decorations, I relented just a bit. I'm not getting out my glue gun yet, but I did serve up a platter of these tender, sweet Apple Scones as a peace offering. I then pointed them to the craft closet and handed them all a pair of scissors and a glue stick.
I don't know if Martha Stewart would be very impressed, but the kids are incredibly excited to be the designated seasonal decorators. The Apple Scones didn't disappoint either.
Apple Scones with Apple Cider Cinnamon Glaze
These scones are all buttery, apple goodness. They're tender, with juicy apple chunks in nearly every bite. It's hard to tell from pictures, but these scones aren't dry at all. They'll practically melt in your mouth.
Without the glaze, they taste like a soft, buttery muffin - not too sweet at all, but still full of flavor. And you can certainly stop there, but I will say this: you won't regret the glaze. With the glaze, these apple scones are like a fancy bakery treat. The bright tang of the apple cider, paired with sweet cinnamon and sugar, is the perfect topping.
They're easy to make. I promise! I use this scone pan, which isn't necessary at all, but it does keep them all looking uniform. As an Amazon Associate and member of other affiliate programs, I earn from qualifying purchases.

Don't let your children on Pinterest - I've been trawling it over the past few days and I'll never again be content with the level of decoration or crafting around me 😉

I'm such a sucker for scones...completely in love with these! Love the apple cinnamon in the glaze and the use of yogurt in the dough!

I made these scones and they turned out great! So tasty and pretty. The only thing I did different was I used milk instead of cider because I didn't have any cider handy.

Was the milk measurement the same?

These scones were awesome, I made them exactly as you posted, but did have to bake them a little longer (probably my oven or altitude) but I wanted to eat the whole plate of them. Thank you!

These scones were excellent. The only changes i made were that I added some cinnamon chips and grated the apples. Will definitely be making those again.
