Right now, if you tell my daughters they are beautiful, they will say, "I know." It's not vanity, it's confidence and innocence. As a mother, I just want some sort of blueprint for how to do this right, how to keep these girls wild, sweet, and tender like they are right now.
They take pride in their skinned knees, they feel beautiful in a pair of old jammies, and they believe me when I tell them that every freckle on their face and every curly hair on their head is absolutely perfect. I tell them everyday and I just hope it sticks.
Because I have these curly haired girls to love, I was immediately interested in the new Dove Hair "Love Your Curls" campaign. 1 in 3 women have curly hair, but women and girls with curly hair tend to feel less confident. In fact, only 4 in 10 little girls with curly hair think their hair is beautiful and only 10% of women in the US with curls feel proud of their hair.
Dove wants all women and girls to love their curls, and as a mother of two wildly curly haired girls, so do I! Girls are more likely to feel beautiful and proud of their hair if the people around them do too, which is why I'd like to spread the word: Love Your Curls!
One thing I have found, after fixing curly hair in all its frizzy and tangled glory for the past seven years, is that having the right hair products really does make a difference. What you put on those curls means the difference between a fuzzed out mess or pretty curls. We do deal with a lot of tangles, as you can see here:
And with all those fuzzy tangles, we've tried a lot of curly hair products over the years. After a lot of trial and error, we settled on a leave-in conditioner that helped the frizz and a curl defining spray. They work okay, but really only for the hours right after they wash their hair. By the end of most days, and certainly by day two, we're looking at the tangled frizzy mess again.
We've been using the new Dove Hair Quench Absolute products for the past week, however, and I'm a fan. I think we've finally found the best curly hair products! Three days after I washed their hair with the Dove Hair Quench Absolute Shampoo and Conditioner, their curls were still soft, smooth, and defined - that has never happened! Their hair has never looked healthier or prettier, really and truly.
On a scale from 1 to 10, the Dove Hair Quench Absolute products (Shampoo, Conditioner, Supreme Cream Serum, and Intensive Restoration Mask) earn a resounding 10! We've been using them all and we'll be continuing to use them. Just look at the difference they make:
Those curls! What's not to love?
And to help spread the curly hair love, Dove Hair has released a beautiful new book, a poetic tribute to curly hair called Love Your Curls. When I gave my girls the book, they were so excited - having curly hair is kind of like belonging to a really special club, don't you think?
The Love Your Curls book was inspired by the thousands of stories from women with curly hair, real stories from real women and it represents curly girls of all ages.
If you have curls or know girls who do, you can download the Free E-Book version and even personalize it for a curly girl in your life. Love Your Curls and help your girls love them too!

If only I could be in that club! It's hard to believe the majority of curly haired girls don't like it. I've pretty much spent my life wishing for curls!

I know, right! I have some waves in my hair, but I'd trade my hair in for my daughter's curls any day!

I love Dove, but what about the boys? My sons have enviable gorgeous curls, their father and I don't, so we're learning to handle curly hair. We're constantly told to just keep their hair super short. That's stupid. Boys can love their hair too, and don't think boys don't have confidence issues too.
