This fun new coloring book was created by a kid, especially for kids! And we think 11-year-old Joe Whale really knocked it out of the park with The Official Doodle Boy Coloring Book! Enter the Giveaway below.
When my kids first started school I would be so excited to pick them up at the end of the day. I wanted to know everything that happened – what did they learn about, who did they play with, how did they feel?
But, as I’m sure my fellow parents and care-givers already know, all of my questions would normally be met with short, non-descriptive answers like “nothing much” or “it was fine.”
Now, I’ve had kids in school for over ten years and I’ve learned a few tricks along the way. Once I finally realized that my kids just needed some time to transition from school to home and decompress a little, I was able to have much better conversations with them about their day.
One of my favorite ways to help my kids unwind after school is to have some snacks and coloring books set up at the table when they get home. As they color and relax, they also start talking.
Research shows that coloring can be calming and therapeutic for kids. It also helps stimulate creativity, improve focus, and contributes to better handwriting! There are so many good reasons to set aside a little time everyday for some coloring.
This post was written in partnership with The Children’s Book Review and Tom Durwood. All opinions and experiences are entirely my own.
The Official Doodle Boy Coloring Book
Because we make coloring part of our regular after-school routine, I’m always on the lookout for fun and unique coloring books. The Official Doodle Boy Coloring Book (Affiliate link) checks all the boxes!
Copies of the coloring book won’t be available until September 15th, but we got permission from the publisher to print pages from the book in advance so we could put it to our own color test. All four of my kids give The Doodle Boy Coloring Book two enthusiastic thumbs up!
What We Love About the Coloring Book
- The unique and creative doodles! There are 96 pages and every single page is different. From ice cream cones to monsters to underwater ocean scenes, the entire book is a wacky coloring adventure. No boring pages in this book!
- The thick lines and shapes make it easy for even very young kids to be able to color, but the creative/busy designs keeps it interesting for older kids too. It’s great when one coloring book can enthrall both my 7-year-old and my 13-year-old at the same time.
- That it was created by a kid! My kids are so inspired by Joe Whale and his incredible imagination (they loved watching him doodle on YouTube). You can find out more about him at his website: www.thedoodleboy.com
