When it's too cold to play outside this Winter, enjoy a cozy game of Winter Picture Book Bingo! All you need is this Free Printable and a stack of your favorite winter themed picture books.
I began this bingo project earlier this year with Spring Picture Book Bingo. Now we've journeyed back around the sun and find ourselves awaiting Spring once again. I've always loved the rhythm of the seasons and sharing that natural rhythm with my kids. These Picture Book Bingo cards have been a simple and fun way to mark the changing seasons together.
Today I have the final installment of the four seasons: Winter Picture Book Bingo Cards. You can find printable bingo cards for all four seasons here.
How to Play Winter Picture Book Bingo
In my Spring Picture Book Bingo post I shared how to use these Bingo cards. In my Summer post I shared a few more ideas for playing picture book bingo and making reading time fun. Check those out, if you haven’t already. Then grab a stack of Winter Picture Books and you're all ready to get started.
There are a lot of variations on how to play, but the big idea here is just to make reading time a little more fun!
Winter Picture Books
We have a basket of seasonal books for every season (and most holidays), but our Winter Picture Book Basket is probably my favorite collection of books. There are so many good ones! And winter is such a good time of year to cozy up with a blanket and a big stack of books.
One of our favorite new additions to the Winter Book Basket this year has been All Around Bustletown: Winter by Rotraut Susan Berner (Note: this is an Amazon affiliate link). It's an oversized board book with the most delightful cross-section illustrations, which I always find so very appealing.
It's a wordless book, but it tells some very fun stories. On the back cover it gives you a little tidbit about a few of the characters in the book: Billy goes for a run every day in the park; Anne overslept and missed the bus; Bonnie (the cat) takes a tour through town. Then, as you find the characters in the book and follow them through town, you can see how their stories unfold. Anne may have overslept, but she still manages to make it to the Park Cafe at the same time as Billy.
Best of all, you can cross off quite a few squares on the Winter Picture Book Bingo card with this book alone! And if you're looking for more to read, check out our Big List of Winter Picture Books.
Happy Winter Reading! If you play along, be sure to tag me @somethewiser on social media – I love to see you having reading fun!
And, if you’re a teacher or librarian, feel free to use the Winter Picture Book Bingo Cards in your classrooms and libraries. It makes me so happy to see people reading!
