This Home Style Cheddar Potato Soup is the best winter soup! It's hot and creamy and cheesy and potatoes with carrots are winter necessities. When I come in from the cold, this soup right here is the one I want. A big steamy bowl of this cheesy soup can thaw out all kinds of chilly - it's a heart warmer for sure.
Speaking of the best, we have the best friends that we just spent the best weekend with. And speaking of chilly, some of us found ourselves face down in the snow more than once. But despite snow in our boots, soaked through gloves, and down our necks, we had hot food, hot chocolate, and a hot fire to make the weekend so cozy. Fantastic friends and the most awesome sledding hill just outside the cabin door made the weekend unforgettable.
And since BRAVE is my theme for the year, I even pulled on my water proof pants and took the plunge down that very, very tall hill. I am normally quite content to sit out when things like snow and steep hills are involved. Um me? I'll just take pictures and put another log on the fire. I like to be warm and dry and safe, if you know what I mean. But really, all things considered, a face full of snow as I zipped down that hill was nothing compared to ex-husbands (ha!).
So I let this perfect weekend set the stage for all that is to come this year. It is incredible how we can face impossible things, deal with loss and heartbreak, face fear and trials, and sometimes find ourselves buried under the weight of it all. And then there are moments of perfect joy and happiness shared with the people I love most and it brings me to my knees and gets me back on my feet. I have such a good life.
Here are a few (okay, more than a few) of my favorite moments from my weekend recharge. I'm still smiling as I think about how much fun we had! It's a lot of pictures, but if you make it to the end you'll also find the most delicious recipe for one of my most favorite Winter Comfort Foods. Home Style Cheddar Potato Soup is a good way to warm up this January.
Now that was a lot of happiness packed into a weekend, a cabin, and a really great sledding hill!
Here's my recipe for Cheddar Potato Soup - I packed as much comfort and flavor into it as I possibly could. (I originally posted this recipe over on Food Fanatic and you can check it out there too!)

Yeah for BRAVE and a bowl of hot soup! There is something to be said for stepping (or sliding) into the fear and getting to the other side:)

Anytime you want to face fear and go sledding, count me in! BTW, you are braver than you give yourself credit for:0)
The kids keep asking "When can we go to the cabin again?". It was the best weekend!
Even with snow in the face, broken sleds, lost sleep, and the car stuck in the snow....it was a magical weekend filled with laughter, games, silliness, late nights, hot cocoa, and an abundance of food and friendship to start the year off just right.
