Our favorite Halloween Board Games for family game nights in October and Halloween parties!
Last year, when everything was shutting down and our lives felt suddenly very different, I started thinking about holidays differently too. Maybe it was because we were home so much, or just because we all needed a little something extra to cheer us up, but I realized that I could make even the smallest holidays last all month long and really give ourselves a happiness boost. I didn't do anything big, just small things throughout the month, but they had a big effect.
This year, life is more back to normal (or at least a new normal), but we're still sticking to our extended holiday traditions that we started last year. Turns out, they really do make our everyday routines feel a lot more fun and it gives us all something to look forward to!
One of the ways we celebrate Halloween all month long is with fun Halloween Board Games.
It's not unusual for us to play a card or board game as a family after dinner, but pulling out Halloween Board Games with a bit of a spooky twist in October makes game time feel a little more special and a lot more fun!
All of these Halloween Board Games have a spooky element that makes them perfect for playing in October. They're great for casual family game nights, but you could also invite people over for a Halloween Game Party too. Either way, having a few of these games around to play all month really makes the Halloween holiday fun last a lot longer.

Halloween Board Games
This is our favorite family Halloween Board Game right now! It's a cooperative card game in which you work together casting spells to defeat the Sanderson Sisters. But, there's a twist! You can't actually talk to each other while you play. It's a really fun game, especially if you're a fan of the movies (but that's not a prerequisite for playing).
2 to 6 Players | Ages 8 + | Play Time: 30 minutes
My brother, a board game wizard, introduced us to this one and it became a fast favorite. In this cooperative game the players are wizards trying to escape from a mysterious library with a magical grimoire. The grimoire gives clues that the wizards have to interpret to make their way out. But beware, one of the players is actually a traitor and is working for the vengeful sorcerer to keep you stuck in the library.
2 to 8 Players | Ages 10 + | Play Time: 45 minutes
I'm actually terrible at this game, but my kids LOVE it. This game is set up as a spooky campfire story about the legend of the Wendigo - a horrible creature with a heart of ice. To play, one player acts as the wendigo's spirit stealing scouts while the other players use their powers of observation to identify which card is the wendigo and stop him before he steals too many scouts.
2 to 6 Players | Ages 6 + | Play time: 10 minutes
Do you remember this game from the 90's? It got an update a few years ago and it's so fun to play this again with my own kids!
Aunt Agatha has passed away and her fortune is up for grabs. 12 of her friends and employees have gathered at her mansion, but only the character with their picture in the frame above the fireplace at the end will win the fortune. There are booby traps and surprises all along the way, which makes this Halloween Board Game so much fun! It's like getting to play a game version of an Agatha Christie book.
2 to 4 Players | Ages 8 + | Play time: 45 minutes
I love this award winning game because it's just as fun for the youngest players as it is for the oldest players! It's another cooperative game in which everyone is playing against the ghosts. The goal of the game is to recover gems from different rooms in the house, but ghosts show up to stop you as you roll the dice.
I also appreciate that this game has Basic Game Play instructions as well as Advanced Game Play instructions, so you can play an easier or more challenging version.
2 to 4 Players | Ages 8 + | Play time: 30 minutes
In this game the players are ghosts trying to scare away pesky ghost hunters - scare away the most ghost hunters and you win. There's strategy, bluffing, and a lot of yelling "BOO" on your turn. It's perfect spooky Halloween fun for the whole family.
2 to 5 Players | Ages 6 + | Play time: 30 minutes
This one is quick and you can play with up to 10 people, so it's a great Halloween Party game too - you can also download an app that adds to the fun of this game.
Each player is given a card that gives them a secret special power during the night to either help a werewolf team or a villager. When daybreaks, the group debates for a few minutes and tries to identify the werewolf. Super fast and super fun.
3 to 10 Players | Ages 8 + | Play time: 10 minutes
