This delicious smoothie has more than 100% of your daily recommended Vitamin C! It's the perfect way to supercharge your morning with energy and health!
I am crazy in love with this smoothie book! The publishers sent me a copy of Simple Green Smoothies back in November and I don't think a day has passed since then that it hasn't been open on the counter while we mix up one of its many good smoothies. In fact, I talked it up so much that my parents got a copy and my sister got a copy and I'll be sending copies to the rest of my friends and family for their birthdays this year. I speak only truth when I say that this is the very best smoothie book I've ever seen.
The best part of Simple Green Smoothies are the recipes of course, but there's so much more that I love about it. I love Jen and Jadah's story and the way they never preach or tell you that you're doing it all wrong. I love that they don't make green smoothies all about weight loss (although you may lose weight and Jadah lost 30 pounds when she started drinking one green smoothie a day!), they're just a small, simple step towards a healthier life.
If you're new to green smoothies, they have a 10-Day Kickstart plan in the book to ease you in to the habit of drinking a green smoothie every day and get your taste buds accustomed to the greens. If you're already a fan of green smoothies and feel comfortable with the blender and a pile of spinach, then you can just jump right into all the recipes. And there are so many good recipes!
The first section of smoothies we made was the kid friendly section, because I knew if I could get my kids on board with a green smoothie breakfast everyday then life would be good. My plan worked and I give credit entirely to Jen and Jadah for their tasty, kid friendly smoothies like the Banana Split Smoothie, and my kids' favorite, the Pinky Pie Punch Smoothie.
There is a section of smoothies for enhancing your Natural Beauty - smoothies like the Tropical Turmeric Cleanser and the Kiwi Berry Glow, which is so delicious and is loaded with antioxidants that keep skin firm, prevent wrinkles, and are great for healthy bones and teeth.
There's also a section for Fitness Fuel smoothies great for pre and post workouts and a section for Healing and Immunity Boosting, with one of my personal favorite smoothies - the Purple Power Healer, packed with red cabbage, blackberries and elderberry extract.
And my favorite section of course, is the Delicious Dessert chapter of the book. With goodies like the Thanksgiving in Your Mouth Smoothie, Blue Lavender Ice Cream, and my very favorite, the Mexican Hot Chocolate Smoothie, this book is never going out of style in my kitchen!
But one of the things I love the most about this book, and about the Simple Green Smoothie website, is just how real and down-to-earth Jada and Jen truly are. After I fell in love with the book, I signed up for the email newsletter and I love hearing from them a few times a week with new recipes and a little encouragement to keep aiming for a healthy lifestyle. In one of my favorite recent emails they said this about living the green smoothie lifestyle:
We don’t hide in our closet to scarf down cake. We eat cake around a table with our family and friends. There is no food-shaming, diet-restrictions when it comes to the rawkstar life. We take imperfect steps on the wellness journey every day and celebrate it! Ya with us? We have an overall goal of being a better version of ourselves every single day, but we never strive for perfection.
That is a perspective on healthy eating that I can completely get behind! The whole Simple Green Smoothie book radiates with their fun, relaxed personality and this idea that being healthy is a journey we take everyday and one that really doesn't have to be perfect.
I think you should get the book. I can also highly recommend their email newsletter and they send, which includes new recipes all the time and friendly, funny encouragement. One of my all time favorite green smoothies, the Chai Like You smoothie, came in their email newsletter and I make it almost once a week now!
In the meantime, try out this smoothie from the Energy Boosting chapter of the book. In the book it is called Kalifornia Sunshine. I altered it slightly because I only had clementines and not oranges, and I used a blend of kale, spinach, and chard greens instead of just kale. It's one of the "greener" smoothies in the book, but I love it because of the high dose of vitamin C and the energy boost that I desperately need this time of year without all the sunshine. Enjoy!
